You Have What It Takes to Work At Home

Everyday I receive email asking me about the best way to work at home. These people are usually looking for something that is fast, easy and profitable. Unfortunately, that\’s hard to find or achieve, partly because there are so many scams. But even people who find good opportunities often fail because there is too much involved in learning, planning and implementing a work-at-home projects.

But there are many people who find fairly quick success in working at home by using the skills they already have. The learning curve is severely shortened by using knowledge or experience that already exists.

Not sure if you have a talent that can make money? Think again. Today the Internet has made it easier than ever to make money with your skills, interests and passions. A mid-western family makes a living selling the tumbleweed that litters it yard. An overweight woman starts a blog to help her through a diet and not only loses weight but makes money in the process. A mom in dire need of money, sells her children\’s outgrown clothes on eBay and eventually creates a business selling gently-used children\’s clothing. The point is, everyone knows or can do something that can make money if they are open to and willing to act on the ideas.

Here is how to use what you\’ve got to make money from home.

Identify your assets: When we think of assets we think of things we own such as a house. While that is an asset, it\’s also anything that can bring in money. That includes:

1) Your skills. Any skills from a job, volunteer work, or a hobby can be used. Typing 80 words per minute, handling irate customers, cooking flavorful chicken without the fat, and growing a garden in an apartment are all types of skills.

2) Your knowledge. You learn a lot in a job, volunteer work or a hobby that can be used to make money. This can include how to use a computer and software, strategies you\’ve developed to make your work or life easier, and anything you\’ve discovered through life experience.

3) Activities that you love. Imagine turning your hobby such as reading mysteries or collecting antique dolls, or a passion such as ending hunger into an income.

4) Your stuff. Everyone has tangible items that can used as tools or sold for money. This includes things like your computer (tool) or excess stuff (i.e. tumble weed or old clothes).

Start by listing all your assets. If you\’re having trouble with the list, think about the types of problems people ask you for advice about. Write all your assets even if you think its nutty or won\’t make money. You\’d be surprised at how people are using unique and obscure assets to make money from home.

Next you need to decide how you\’re going to make money from your ideas. There are three ways to generate an income:

1) Sell your skills. Find a job or freelance work, or start a business using your skills.

2) Sell your knowledge or passion. Other people want to know or learn about what you know. You can use coaching or information products (books, videos etc) to teach them.

3) Sell your stuff. You can sell your clutter, your own creations, or even join an existing business opportunity that has the products you love.

I understand the desire to find a way to make money now. I remember trying to find the next great sign-up- get-paid opportunity when I first started on my work-at-home journey. But if you talk to people who are successfully working at home, you\’ll discover that they have tapped into the skills, knowledge, or passions they already have to find or create a job or home business. The shortest path to work-at-home success is to focus on your current assets. You already have the knowledge and experience that you can put to work right away and will bring you success much faster than looking for the quick fix.
