Buy and Sell Websites For Fun & Profit
There\’s a new market in town and it\’s full of investors and developer who buy and sell websites, trading new and established sites for short terms gains or long term profits.
What\’s involved in buying and selling websites? I\’m so glad you asked. Three parties are involved in a successful website trade; the buyer, the seller and the marketplace. The seller lists a website, usually as an auction, in the marketplace, the buyer(s) then bid on the auction. Once a bidder is successful the seller transfers the website and domain to the new owner (the winning bidder).
So how do you get involved? If you want to buy and sell websites, you usually fall into one or many of the following categories:
1. Website Designer. You want to build websites but you don\’t have any clients to build them for. Why not register a domain, setup a Wordpress blog, add a nice theme, some content and sell it. You can do this and make reasonable money doing so – if you can streamline the process and make good quality sites. These start-up style sites sell on Flippa for between $200 and $500.
2. Established Website Sellers. Website owners who sell established websites. These sites may or may not have revenue history, usually has unique content and ranks well in search results for certain search terms.
3. Business Investor. You want to take the hard work and time out of establishing an online business. Why not buy one ready made? The online business investor buys revenue generating websites, improves on them and reaps the rewards either through on-going revenue or by re-selling (or flipping) the website.
4. Start Up Site Buyers. Start up site buyers are usually looking for a quick entry into a potentially profitable niche. Buying a start up site takes the work out of finding a niche, registering a domain and setting up a basic site. Essentially it\’s a shortcut to market. These buyers may get the site up to a respectable earnings level then flip the site (resell it) and realize a profit.
You\’ve probably already decided which category you belong to. Either you\’re a buyer or a seller (or both) and you belong to one or more of the categories above. You\’re an investor looking to start investing in virtual property or you\’re a website developer looking to make a dollar selling websites. Either way, spend some time learning how the market works, what websites are worth and do your due diligence before buying or selling a website.
